Fire almost killed her years before. Will rekindling a dangerous friendship finish the job? At age 15, a horrific fire left Grace Jensen scarred and highly sensitive to the pain of anyone she touches. Thirteen years later, living with her hoarder mother and half-in-love with her former doctor, her long-absent best friend, Marly Kennet, returns to town and convinces Grace to make a leap-of-faith trip to Las Vegas. There, Grace discovers she not only feels others’ pain, she can heal it. This healing gift soon turns darker when the truth of Marly’s past and the fire that scarred Grace is revealed, pushing the boundaries of loyalty and exposing both women to danger. With the intensity of a thriller, and a touch of magic realism, Forged in Grace leads to a dramatic climax in which she must choose between healing and revenge.

Forged in Grace eBook Jordan E Rosenfeld

I bought this book because I have, on occasion, briefly met Jordan at writing conferences and retreats. So I wanted to support her by buying her book. If it wasn't for the casual association I probably would not have purchased the book. I'm a visual person and the cover... not that appealing to me, personally. Then I read the blurb and again, it was not something that appealed to me. But I was going to read this book no matter what!

To my surprise this has turned out to be one the best books I've read in a while. Every scene, every chapter moved me forward -I had to know what was going to happen. I haven't stayed up beyond my bed time reading a since.... it's too long to remember. This book, however kept me beyond my bed time, I had a hard time putting it down! Thank you Jordan Rosenfeld for writing such a wonderful story.

Forged in Grace eBook Jordan E Rosenfeld Reviews

I loved Rosenfeld's tender protagonist in this novel, who has a mysterious ability slowly revealed, and 'forged in grace', forged in fire. The contrast between Grace's reserved, private personality and her inner ferocity, loyalty and smarts makes you happy to spend this novel with her. Rosenfeld has a way of creating interesting characters with quirks that illuminate their faults in such a way that you are able to empathize with them, not dislike them. Rosenfeld moves away from stereotypes for example, with the character of Grace's mother, who is a hoarder...but is also revealed in small segments as the whole person anyone truly is inside, with strengths and weaknesses just like any of us. Loved loved reading this book!
At first glance, Grace is an unlikely heroine. She's deeply scarred, inside and out, living a small, sheltered life with limited interactions with the outside world. But her internal world is so vivid, her humor and loneliness so relatable, that you can't help rooting for her. Leaving the comfort of her home and venturing off with the mercurial Marly, Grace must face the secrets of her past (I actually gasped when the truth came out) and the weight of responsibility that comes with her power to heal others but not herself. A wonderful blend of suspense and storytelling, I couldn't put the book down. In fact, I bought it in paperback as well as on my , because it's the kind of book you want on your shelf to revisit passages again and again.
I can't call this book anything but amazing. The sub-stories, the characters...

Grace has scars. She felt horrendous pain for quite some time after the fire. Unable to bear human touch because of this pain and these scars, she lived a relatively quiet life in northern California, along with her mother, and worked closely caring for wounded animals especially in the wild. Her mother, a hoarder, needed some exceptional care, but I felt that Grace often wondered if she was just enabling her in that lifestyle.

At first, you aren't sure about Marly's relationship with Grace. After all these years, Marly turns out to be another needful soul, even if she didn't realize it. She was bold, brassy, and seemed at first a little crazy. We find out later that it goes deeper than that. She knows things Grace has pushed to the back of her brain, trying to forget. Perhaps it was just denial of the truth.

I think what got me the most about this book was how close it was in many respects to many points in my own life. My scars, my pain, and my own understanding of other people's psychological, rather than physical, suffering came through loud and clear with Jordan's fabulous ability to strike such a deep, resonant tone in her work.

I had to edit this down to something readable, because a four-page review on a book that struck so deeply into my soul was TMI online. Jordan is the reason I started journaling again.
As a mother, any book containing tragedies affecting children is tough to pick up, but I'm so glad I made this exception. A beautiful tale of heartbreak and adversity told through the lens of the exceptional protagonist, Grace, the story centers around a childhood tragedy that left her burned, physically changed forever and finds her living with her mother, who reminds me of the mother from "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

I found myself drawn to the friendship and betrayal side of the story as Jordan Rosenfeld captures the complexity of enduring female friendships in a way that is brutally honest and yet allows the reader to see the story from all sides. For all the adversity, it is a beautiful story of hope and healing. An exceptional kind of love woven through the web of tragedy, angst, and time.

Beautiful writing, wonderful storytelling, a fantastic read I highly recommend.
I found myself captivated by the life of Grace as she struggled to find herself 13 years after being victim of a tree house fire along with her best friend Marly. After years of not having seen Marly comes home for a funeral and Grace finds herself choosing to follow her childhood friend to Las Vegas for the first time leaving home where she has had to struggle to belong in since the fire. Adapting to a very public city, Grace finds herself discovering how to be present in the moment for the first time in her life while living in her own skin. She meets amazing people along the way and discovers the love she has for her doctor and the relationship she wants with her parents to be the most valuable thing of all.

I found myself entranced with the tale of Grace and all the people she has met in her life to be exciting and tiresome all in one sentence. The lives of the characters are authentic and I found myself on the verge of tears due to the empathy each character drew from me. Jordan Rosenfeld wove a wonderful story that tells a tell of self discovery in a young woman who has had horrific challenges to face in her young life. Praise for Forged in Grace for I found myself wanting to turn the page when there were no longer pages to turn.
